The Moors established a settlement in Benitachell in 1698 from where the name of Poble Nou de Benitachell was derived, although archaeological remains found in the Cueva del Moro date back over 18,000 years.

Benitachell is a coastal municipality and has a history of agriculture, the main crop being Muscatel Grapes and there are many examples of the riu-rau type of construction, which is used to dry the grapes and turn them into raisins.

The town is famous for the Church of St Mary Magdalene, with its roof of blue and white tiles and which sits high in the centre of the town, illuminated at night for everyone to see.

Benitachell is a typical Spanish town and its interior provides visitors with narrow winding streets and an insight to the Spanish way of life.

The “Mountain of the sun” Cumbre del sol offers outstanding views to the Ifach rock, the Montgo and the Sierra de Bernia, plus the Arcos underwater caves, El Moraig cove, Llebeig cove and los Tiestos cove.

Cumbre del Sol, Benitachell

This beautiful mountain that is called ‘Cumbre del Sol’ is perfect for anyone looking for a property with unbeatable, panoramic, day and night views of the sea and coastline,

Without the need to venture into any of the nearby towns, here you will find a well-stocked supermarket, pharmacy, restaurant and hairdressers and the Lady Elizabeth Primary School, soon to be expanded to include the senior school too, can be found at the foot of the mountain.  The Lady Elizabeth School follows the English curriculum.   Our own children have attended this school.  Should anyone require any further information, please contact us, we will be happy to help.

The Restaurant la Cumbre is highly recommended, with excellent food (including menu del dia), stunning views and use of its swimming pool.

This wonderful part of the Costa Blanca also has its own idyllic cove, Cala del Moraig, perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling, with crystal clear waters and enticing caves.  A cool bar serves snacks and refreshments; sun beds are available and, during the summer season, the added security of a lifeguard.   If you want to take off your clothes, nudists are also welcome.

The ‘Mountain of the Sun’ rises above the traditional Spanish town of Benitachell.  Mid-way between Javea and Moraira, this location is also very convenient for the both these bustling towns and their popular beaches.  Nearby, golf, horse riding, tennis and go-karting is available, as well as many rural pathways and countryside, perfect for rambling.

In addition to all the above, Cumbre del Sol has easy access to the motorway and the airports of Alicante and Valencia are approx. 1 hour by car.
